Welcome The World Wide Med!
By: Lisa Rochester

Meet Dr. Mira Bajirova, the newest addition to the ParkwayHealth Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) team.  In addition to a solid general medical foundation, she is also a consultant OB/GYN in the areas of In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and gynecological surgery.

Anyone will tell you, Shanghai is a cosmopolitan city and upon meeting Dr. Bajirova you will see she embodies the spirit of the City.  Having studied and traveled around the world, she brings a diversity of experiences and expertise to ParkwayHealth.

Just consider these numbers 25, 11, 15, 7 and 5. Dr. Bajirova has 25 years of medical experience, 11 university degrees, 15 years practicing obstetrics and gynecology, visited 7 countries last year alone and speaks 5 languages (Fluent in English, French and Russian; basic abilities in Spanish, Arabic).  When you add it up, she is infinitely qualified!

We sat down with Dr. Bajirova and asked her a few questions:

Q.  What inspired you to become a doctor?

A.  "I was born in the Chinese bordering country of Kazakhstan.  And when I was 16 years old, I was sick for almost a year, spending most of it in the hospital. I wanted to know the reason why.  The doctors were never able to answer the question."

It was that curiosity and quest for knowledge, which led her abroad.  At the youthful age of seventeen she left her homeland to pursue medicine.  From her medical study at a high level Moscow research center for maternal and infant protection to an international exchange program in London, she began her life-long pursuit of medical excellence.  However, it was an invitation to France where she expanded her expertise in the area of IVF and her love for that country - her home away from home.

Q. Tell us some of the places where you've studied, practiced or toured.

A. "I love to travel and experience different cultures.  From London, I went to Paris, France and started a whole new life.  It was difficult learning a new language and new medical training (11 more years of it), but it became one of my favorite places.
You know there are 122 French Polynesian Islands and when I worked there a patron donated a small plane. In this plane, two pilots and I flew from island to island, serving women."

Other places she has been include, Vietnam, Tahiti, Kuwait, India, Dubai, Reunion/Madagascar, Canada, and the United States of America to name a few.

Q. In addition to OB/GYN services at ParkwayHealth, what will be your focus?

A. "There are many women who cannot conceive through the traditional method.  Many expatriates who are in China may not know where to go to get advice about IVF. I bring my training to the practice.  We, at ParkwayHealth, can counsel and prepare the patient, then partner with a top-ranked Chinese facility to perform the procedure.  I think this will be great for expatriates.

I look forward to sharing the knowledge I gained from training at fertility clinics in London and Washington, DC; my work with an American IVF leader in Dubai; and my experience as head of a fertility clinic in the United Arab Emirates."

Q. Of all the places in the world that you could practice, why did you choose China and ParkwayHealth?

A. "As a person, I am curious, open-minded and love to travel. So China was a perfect fit.  I have already discovered great Chinese restaurants walking around my new neighborhood.

I chose ParkwayHealth because of the new and exciting direction and leadership. And because at ParkwayHealth I can see patients of all kinds - from Germany, Norway, America to Brazil."

And with a warm smile and farewell, she dashed off to study her next new language, Mandarin.

Join us in welcoming Dr. Mira Bajirova to the ParkwayHealth family!
